If you could ask our guests any question about their industry, their career path, and the lessons they’ve learned about building a rewarding career, what would you want to know? I’ll ask your favorite questions, and mine, on future episodes.
Our guests are professionals from all different fields and walks of life whose career journeys have included unexpected pivots and challenges, and taken them places they never thought they’d go. Does that sound like you, or someone you know?

I’m your host, Monica Argandoña, and to put it simply: my path has never been straight!
I changed my college major five times, and didn’t end up working in the undergraduate field I studied. I’ve worked plenty–in everything from coffee shops to politics, elementary schools to non-profit fundraising–you name it! At one point, I decided to pursue a master’s in anthropology. I was curious about people, about culture, about how we make sense of the world. And that degree led me down a completely unexpected path.
“Two cattle ranchers and a college student walk into a bar…”
While traveling through remote Modoc County in Northern California, I walked into a bar and met two cattle ranchers. That conversation turned into a research project—then a thesis—then a year spent learning everything I could about ranching, land use, and public lands. I eventually got my PhD, wrote about ranchers and environmental conflict, and worked on environmental legislation. Today, I teach environmental science and policy at a major university.
I’m also a first-generation college graduate. I’ve been broke. I’ve been scared. I’ve made choices out of necessity. But I’ve also had mentors, community, and just enough grit to keep going. That’s what I want to give to others.
The Path Found podcast is part of a bigger vision. I’ve started a non-profit called Keystone Network to support young people—especially those without access to mentorship or guidance—as they navigate the complex transition from education to career.

After two decades of teaching and advising students, I’ve realized: we don’t do enough to prepare young people for life after school. We talk about degrees, but not how to find work that feels purposeful. We don’t talk enough about rejection, starting over, or navigating change. We don’t teach students how to network, how to build a career path, how to ask for help, or how to make sense of a job market that’s shifting fast—with AI, automation, and rising education costs changing the game.
I founded Keystone Network to help high school students, college students, and young adults navigate the next steps in their academic or professional lives. Together with an amazing team of mentors and hiring partners, we guide young people in identifying paths aligned with their skills, interests, and goals—and equip them with the resources, connections, and life skills they need to succeed on their own terms.
